If you aren’t in to making your own costume you pretty much only have a few options. Go shopping to buy a costume, rent something snazzy from a party shop or order a Halloween costume online. I have experience in all three and I will give you my overview of each.
First of all, shopping at the mall really isn’t my favorite thing to do in the first place. I feel like needlessly shopping is both a waste of time, as well as a waste of money. Without a plan you always wind up buying things you don’t really need. If you really have your heart set on buying a costume from your local mall, figure out exactly where you can get it. Head straight to the store you know will carry your outfit, get in, pick it out and get out as fast as you can. Even if you do grab your costume from the mall, chances are it will be cheap and low quality. The mall is trying to sell as many costumes for the largest profit margin possible resulting in most of their costumes being low quality which is another reason why buying costumes at the mall is a bad idea.
The other thing you could do is try renting a Halloween Costume from a local party shop. This is a pretty popular idea so most of the good costumes get rented out pretty quick. The biggest problem with these costumes is the cost to rent is generally pretty high, often times close to the same price it would have been to just buy the costume yourself. Costume rentals stores usually force you to leave a deposit because it is pretty common for people to damage the rental costume while out partying. Finally, the biggest hassle of all is the time wasted with the whole rental process. You need to go to the store weeks in advance, find the costume you want, try it on, book the costume, then come back on the day of your Halloween party to pick it up. Worst of all, you have to return it the following day. While you might be able to source a pretty awesome costume, the overall hassle to actually getting it, using it and returning it are not worth the benefits.
The final option, and by far my favorite is just buying your Halloween costume online. The fact of the matter is, you can browse through hundreds if not thousands of available costumes, find the one you want and order your size. A few days later it shows up at your house through the mail and you are set and ready to go. The total time spent hunting down a costume is less than twenty minutes. Since many online costume stores have to compete with the likes of the real world, they are forced to offer much higher quality costumes and similar, if not better prices than the local establishments.
